Suspect in Murfreesboro credit union attempted robbery identified; still at large - Best Murfreesboro Lawyer
The man who attempted to rob a Murfreesboro credit union on Tuesday has been identified, but he remains on the run.
George Treece, 47, of Kentucky, is accused of trying to rob the Ascend Federal Credit Union on Memorial Boulevard yesterday afternoon. He left without getting any money.
Treece is also suspected of robbing a bank in Lebanon. Lebanon Police Department detectives are working closely with Murfreesboro investigators.
MPD detectives and crime analysts used license plate readers (LPR) and other technology to identify the getaway vehicle, a black GMC pickup, in the hours following the robberies. Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, located Treece in West Tennessee near Jackson.
THP Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Treece's vehicle, after which he evaded authorities by running into a wooded area. Despite an extensive overnight search, Treece remains on the run.
Investigators urge residents in the West Tennessee area to immediately call 9-1-1 if they spot Treece.
